Strasburg Borough Municipal Brief

At the October 11, 2022 Strasburg Borough Council meeting, Borough Council welcomed the new full-time police officer, Eric Denlinger.  Borough Council then reviewed the 2023 draft budget and capital improvements plan.  The 2023 draft budget, as proposed, does not include a tax increase.  Borough Council approved including additional donations to the Strasburg Fire Company, Strasburg Scout House, Strasburg Playground, and rounding up Strasburg-Heisler Library in the preliminary budget.  The Manager reported that we have a strong current financial picture and Council will review the capital reserve positions as we proceed to the preliminary budget.

The Borough Manager reported that 1) the Eshelman Run Streambank work is expected to begin next week; 2) we are receiving zoning inquiries for uses in the old Strasburg Elementary School that is for sale; 3) LGH construction continues; 4) Commissioner Trescot is scheduled to attend the January 2023 meeting; 5) the annual banquet is scheduled for November 2, 2022; 6) the Lancaster County Commissioners expect to have a decision after October 31, 2022 regarding the grant and we have not received any follow-up questions from the LCPC or EDC; 7) the Authority has meeting scheduled with five prospective purchasers of the sewer system.

The Police Chief reported for the month of September 2022, the Police Department had 444 calls for service.  There were no criminal arrests, 41 speeding arrests, 78 other traffic arrests, and 40 traffic warnings.  The Department also participated in First Responders Night at the Lancaster Barnstormers and the Hometown Heroes Festival at Cherry Crest Adventure Farm. They are also participating in the Pink Patch Campaign which includes the officers wearing the pink patches on their uniform in the month of October and selling the special pink patches for $10 each with the proceeds being donated to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition.

Consent agenda items were payment of the bills, approval of Historical Architectural Review Board Certificate of Appropriateness, and a 90-day time extension for Marnik Holdings LLC.
