At the July 12, 2022 Strasburg Borough Council meeting, the Borough Manager reported that 1) The Zoning Hearing for SARAL was postponed until the August meeting, 2) Borough property leases will be reviewed and updated, 3) a mid-year financial overview will be reviewed at next month’s meeting, 4) the Borough Solicitor is involved to protect the Borough between the Rutter’s and Lancaster General Hospital litigation, 5) 10-14 South Decatur Street was sold prior to the Borough initiating the property maintenance violation and the Borough Manager met with the new buyers, 6) the Lampeter-Strasburg School District did not receive any bids for the sale of the old Strasburg Elementary School, and 7) Borough Council authorized the Borough Manager to work with the Solicitor to complete all necessary street dedications.
In other matters, the Police Chief reported that Officer Drane submitted a letter of intent to retire in January 2023 and the Civil Service Commission met to begin the process for his replacement. The Historical Architectural Review Board Certificate of Appropriateness for 10 East Main Street for a vinyl fence that was installed without obtaining the necessary permits was discussed and was tabled to allow the applicant to apply for the appropriate permits. A request by Strasburg Township to consider partnering for the paving of the Borough portion of Prospect Road was considered and Borough Council chose to wait until the Meadows development is closer to completion and review the road condition. Chris Lainhoff, Tom Lainhoff, Borough Council members, and the Mayor discussed the need for property owners to apply for permits prior to doing work and the need to enforce the rules on all properties.
Police Chief Ferretti reported that for the month of June the police department had five hundred (500) calls for service. There were two (2) criminal arrests, sixty-four (64) speeding arrests, fifty-nine (59) other traffic arrests, and fifty-five (55) traffic warnings.
