HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Senate has passed a resolution in support of efforts to secure the southern border amidst rising concerns about illegal immigration. The resolution, sponsored by Senate Republican leaders, calls for action to address the border crisis and uphold states’ rights to protect their citizens.
Senate Resolution 234, authored by Appropriations Committee Chair Scott Martin, Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward, Majority Leader Joe Pittman, and Majority Whip Ryan P. Aument, voices support for Texas Governor Greg Abbott's actions to secure the border amid what is perceived as federal inaction by the Biden Administration.
In a statement, Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward shared her firsthand experience at the border, highlighting the urgency of the situation and calling on Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro to support Governor Abbott's efforts.
Majority Leader Joe Pittman emphasized the importance of securing the border, stating, "The Biden Administration’s failed immigration policies have left the United States of America in a vulnerable position. Ensuring public safety and national security are central tenets of what our government must provide."
According to Appropriations Committee Chair Scott Martin, illegal immigration not only strains the nation's resources but also poses a serious threat to citizens' safety. Martin criticized the Biden Administration's policies, which he believes have led to an increase in human trafficking, smuggling of guns and drugs, and other dangers.
Majority Whip Ryan P. Aument echoed the sentiments of his colleagues, emphasizing the need to secure the border and find effective solutions. Aument stated, "President Biden’s destructive border policies have not and will not work. We must secure the border and we must find better solutions."
The resolution also calls on the Biden Administration to stop impeding Texas's efforts to limit illegal immigration and encourages Governor Shapiro to join other governors in supporting Governor Abbott's initiatives.
