HARRISBURG – Senate Republican leaders have expressed their views following the final meeting of the 2023-2024 Basic Education Funding Commission.
Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward (R-39) emphasized the need for modernizing the education system, stating, “Throwing more money into a failing system is not a solution. We can and must do better for the education of our children and to ensure we have a skilled workforce to fill the jobs of the future.”
Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman (R-41) thanked the commission members for their efforts and highlighted the importance of providing quality education for all students, saying, “Every single child in Pennsylvania deserves access to a quality education.”
Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Scott Martin (R-13) expressed gratitude for the commission's work in suggesting improvements to support struggling schools. He also stressed the importance of focusing on making the education system stronger and more accountable to improve educational outcomes for students.
The Republicans on the commission have indicated a willingness to review the reports presented and explore changes to better serve the needs of students across Pennsylvania.
