In recognition of National Entrepreneurship Week, House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) announced that the Pennsylvania House Republican Caucus will be prioritizing efforts to remove government obstacles to business creation. Cutler unveiled the Main Street Entrepreneurship Initiative legislative package, which aims to create a thriving economy by making it easier to do business in Pennsylvania and to attract job opportunities.
Cutler emphasized the importance of competition and the need to invite opportunity for the state's economic growth. He stated, "Right now, government is standing in the way of those who want to create businesses of their own in Pennsylvania and tie their futures to that of the success of this Commonwealth."
The Main Street Entrepreneurship Initiative includes several key proposals designed to support aspiring entrepreneurs. These proposals encompass:
- Establishing a set-aside within the Commonwealth's procurement process for entrepreneurs.
- Waiving business filing fees to provide relief for first-time entrepreneurs.
- Creating a new business ombudsman in the Department of Community and Economic Development.
- Requiring businesses that receive grants and loans from the Commonwealth to commit to staying in the Commonwealth.
- Establishing a statewide program for entrepreneurship education among high school students.
- Modernizing the bankruptcy exemption statute to provide fair protections for entrepreneurs' assets.
Cutler acknowledged that government mandates and impediments can hinder entrepreneurial growth and development. He emphasized that the Main Street Entrepreneurship Initiative aims to remove these barriers and allow Pennsylvanians to pursue their dreams and create successful businesses.
As a demonstration of their commitment to this initiative, the House Republicans have released co-sponsorship memos for the forthcoming package of legislation.
The Main Street Entrepreneurship Initiative has received praise and support from various quarters. One entrepreneur, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, "This legislative package is a step in the right direction. It shows that the government is willing to listen to the needs of entrepreneurs and take action to support them."
The Pennsylvania House Republican Caucus is determined to make Pennsylvania a more attractive place for entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses. By removing government obstacles and promoting a favorable business environment, they aim to create a thriving economy that benefits both entrepreneurs and the Commonwealth as a whole.
