Bart-Colerain Elementary School issued the following announcement on Mar. 15.

The work of Solanco High School visual arts educator, Kesse Humphreys, was juried into the 43rd Annual Contemporary Crafts Exhibition at the Mesa Arts Center, Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum in Mesa, Arizona. The exhibition highlights exceptional contemporary crafts from across the U.S. that represent innovation and quality in the traditional craft mediums of ceramics, metals, jewelry, wood, glass, papermaking, and book arts. Humphreys, who earned his BFA at Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University, and his M.Ed at Millersville University, is among 36 artists, representing 15 states, who are showcasing 45 artworks in this highly acclaimed crafts exhibition. Exhibition juror, Beth McLaughlin, who is the Artist Director and Chief Curator at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts says that “Based on the entries, it’s clear that contemporary craft has expanded beyond the traditional and into ingenious territories: experimental processes and material innovations; social change through making; explorations of identity and culture, to name just a few. As the contemporary craft field continues to evolve, the exhibiting artists in this exhibition appear to be fully embracing this creative groundswell.” Solanco Visual Arts Department Chair, Candace Rakers, says that “Kesse is an outstanding educator and metalsmith who innovates exquisitely crafted one-of-a-kind works. His work in silver selected for this exhibition, titled Invasive Species, speaks with integrity as it reflects Kesse’s activism in global environmental sustainability issues.” Rakers adds that “Inclusion in this prestigious national juried exhibition celebrates and honors Kesse’s distinguished achievement.”

The 43rd Annual Contemporary Crafts Exhibition at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum is on view through April 24, 2022.
