Practical Nursing Graduation Cohort 46

Genbusiness001

Lancaster County Ctc-Willow St. Campus issued the following announcement on Oct. 28.

“THAT’S MY MOM!!”

The young voice carried loud and clear through the auditorium as the graduates of the latest cohort of the Practical Nursing program of the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center walked across the stage to receive their diplomas and nursing pins. Practical Nursing Cohort 46 celebrated their completion of the program on Wednesday night, October 27, at the Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences.  The ceremony was also streamed online for those who could not attend in person.

Shirley Herr, the program speaker, reminded the newly minted nurses about their dreams for their futures.  During the PN program, Ms. Herr had collected the professional hopes and dreams from the students and shared them during the ceremony.  From establishing a birth clinic in Africa, to helping people in a drug and alcohol clinic, to working throughout the country as a travel nurse, the students had shared professional dreams could one day be a reality thanks, in part, to the training that they completed at the LCCTC.

The students shared the Nurses Pledge where they promised to adhere to the code of ethics for Nursing, not do anything evil or malicious, not reveal any confidential information, and raise the power and prestige of Practical Nursing.  Following that, they held the traditional Presentation of the Lamp ceremony.  This ceremony is a symbolic passing of knowledge from faculty to students and from nurse to nurse rooted in the ancient practice of one nurse coming on duty taking the flame from the lamp from the nurse who was standing down.  After the Nurses’ Prayer and closing remarks, the new graduates headed into the lobby to celebrate with their loved ones.

Congratulations to all of the new graduates! You make us all proud!
