Third graders race across the finish line at the Pioneer Dash
When COVID-19 scuttled plans for the 2020 Hans Herr Pioneer Dash, The school's PTO got inventive to keep the fundraiser afloat. The team succeeded in creating an experience that merged parts of the usual event, a grade-level run at the district track, with a campus-wide scavenger hunt. This year's Dash proved to be an excellent opportunity for each class to spend time outdoors, exploring, and working together toward a common goal.
On October 2, individual classes raced around campus by way of the cross country course, searching for hidden letters to spell the words Lampeter, Strasburg, or Pioneers. The finish line was at the track, where students celebrated, danced, and enjoyed frozen treats.
The Hans Herr community has donated nearly $10,000 to date for this year's Pioneer Dash. The PTO plans to use proceeds to buy school supplies, provide additional educational support for students, and fund future assemblies, field trips, and author visits. The Hans Herr Pioneer Dash donation page is open through November 5.
