Strasburg Borough Municipal Brief

At the August 9, 2022 Strasburg Borough Council meeting, Mayor Ryder reported that he received several complaints about a food truck operating in a residential district on East Main Street.  The initial issue was resolved by Zoning but he states it may be necessary in the future to investigate other resolutions for food trucks and he will come back with more information.

The Borough Manager reported that 1) The Zoning Hearing Board will meet on August 15, 2022; 2) The Authority entered into a financial advisory agreement with PFM; 3) The County will be reviewing the ARP grants after August 31, 2022; 4) Stormwater engineering continues; 5) Provided an update on the Strasburg Elementary School; and 6) Presented information on a recent request for a food truck in the Commercial District and he and the Police Chief are reviewing the proposal and will continue to look at what other municipalities are doing with food trucks and it may be part of a permitting process outside of zoning.  Consent agenda items were payment of the bills, approval of Historical Architectural Review Board Certificates of Appropriateness, adoption of the 2023 Budget Calendar, and approval for the Strasburg Fire Police to assist Quarryville Borough with the Solanco Fair Parade.  In other business, Borough Council also made a motion to accept and authorize execution of agreements and the Revised Final Subdivision and Land Development Plan for the Lancaster General Hospital.  Borough Council also approved the lot add-on for 180 Shenk Avenue, authorized borough staff to advertise Ordinance 2022-1 to amend the borough’s stormwater management ordinance, and awarded the bid for the Eshelman Run Streambank Restoration Project to Flyway Excavating Inc with a low bid price of $74,400 that will be paid from grant funds.  The Borough Manager provided a mid-year financial overview, stating that the Borough is in good financial condition.

Police Chief Ferretti reported that for the month of July the police department had four hundred fifty-eight (458) calls for service.  There was one (1) criminal arrest, thirty-two (32) speeding arrests, seventy-six (76) other traffic arrests, and seventy-four (74) traffic warnings.
