Solanco’s youngest artists will be featured in the Elementary and Middle Arts Exhibition hosted by the Lancaster County Art Association April 3 -21, 2022 to celebrate the creativity of young artists in kindergarten through 8th grade from across Lancaster County. Solanco visual arts educators, Suzanne Ayers and Emily Leaman at the elementary level, and Phoebe Plaisted and Melissa Tucker at the middle level curated exceptional works produced by the young artists they teach for inclusion in this special exhibition. All works entered into the exhibition by young artists from across the county will be reviewed by a panel of arts professionals who will select the most outstanding works for special awards, which will be presented at the opening celebration on Sunday, April 3, 2022 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Kauffman Gallery at the Lancaster County Art Association, 149 Precision Ave, Strasburg, PA.

Solanco Visual Arts Department Chair, Candace Rakers, said, “The Elementary and Middle Arts Exhibition hosted by the Lancaster County Art Association is especially exciting in that it showcases a wide range of development represented in children’s graphic, symbolic, visual language. The exhibition highlights artistic development from the playful, inventive, narrative explorations in the work of young children to the work of early adolescents that reflects growing expertise, introspection, and interpretation of their expanding world. To have the opportunity to view an extensive collection of elementary and middle level artworks produced by children from across Lancaster County in a professional gallery setting is inspiring as it celebrates and honors the growth, perseverance, and outstanding achievement of these young artists.” Rakers added, “Solanco is additionally uniquely represented in the Elementary and Middle Exhibition at the Lancaster County Art Association not only through the inclusion of Solanco’s young artists, but also in that the Executive Director of the Lancaster County Art Association is Solanco alum, Carol Herr, and among the jurors is Solanco retired, beloved elementary visual arts educator, Ken Hoak, currently President Emeritus and Curator at the Conestoga Area Historical Society. Solanco roots and strong arts advocacy grew the idea for this outstanding opportunity for our youngest artists from across Lancaster County.”
