Welcome to all of the new and returning students and their families to the 2021-2022 school year at the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center! The summer is flying along and in just a handful of days, our lathes will be spinning, our keyboards clacking, our hammers pounding, and our whisks beating.
There is always a sense of renewal to the start to a new school year and this one is particularly poignant. The last two school years were exceptional, by certain definitions, and we enter this new school year filled with hope. The LCCTC was one of the few public schools in the region to maintain full-time, in-person classes for most of the 20-21 school year. This success was made possible by the commitment of everyone at the CTC to the best practices of combating the spread of infection. Adhering to our Health and Safety Plan kept our students and staff as safe as possible and kept our doors open.
We continue that commitment in the 21-22 school year. Again this year, classes will start the school year full-time and in-person. With that said, we also recognize that the greatest lesson that the pandemic has taught schools is that changing conditions and information can come quickly and we must be nimble in our response.
Changes to Instruction May Still Occur
As of the printing of this letter, the PA Departments of Health and Education have stated that they do not plan to issue any direct guidance to school entities relating to COVID-19 prior to the start of the school year. It is up to the individual school districts and school entities to decide how to address the start of the school year.
The LCCTC is keeping a close watch on the infection rates in Lancaster County and we are evaluating all alerts and recommendations from state and federal agencies and legislatures. The CTC’s Health and Safety Plan may change at a moment’s notice, if emerging circumstances require it. Any element of the Health and Safety Plan might change including requirements for masking and social distancing or making a switch to remote, online instruction.
All changes to the Health and Safety Plan will be communicated on the LCCTC’s website at www.lancasterctc.edu/news and shared on social media. Urgent notices will be sent to student contact phone numbers via the CTC’s One Call voice messaging system.
Masking while in School
Again, as of the printing of this letter, masks are not required to be worn inside LCCTC facilities. If you wish to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing as best you can inside CTC buildings, you are welcome to do so. Anyone who presents emerging signs of infection while inside a CTC facility must wear a mask and leave CTC grounds immediately. Please be aware that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that everyone who has not received a full course of Covid vaccination wear masks in public indoor spaces.
Bus Transportation and Masking
All individuals on public transportation must wear masks while on buses and at bus stops according to requirements from the CDC. This includes school buses to and from public school districts and school entities like the LCCTC.
Parking
Last year, we granted eligible students in Grade 11 parking passes that granted permission to park personal vehicles on CTC grounds. This was done during the pandemic to lessen the overall volume of students using bus transportation on a daily basis. That policy will continue into the 21-22 school year. Juniors and seniors can get hard copies of parking permit applications from the campus offices.
Additional information on the rules and regulations for the CTC’s high school campuses and programs is available online at https://lancadsterctc.edu/student-services/forms-documents/.
A school without students is hollow. A vitality is missing throughout the summer that only returns when our students once again walk through our doors. We look forward to seeing our hallways, classes, and labs filled with students. It’s going to be a remarkable school year!
