Hempfield School District issued the following announcement.
Please know that we are working on answers to pressing questions for the Class of 2020, including prom and graduation. As other districts begin making decisions about their events, we know that students and their families will question if this changes our plans for Hempfield High School seniors.
- At this time, prom is being rescheduled from Saturday, May 9 to Friday, June 19, 2020. Further details for this rescheduled event will be communicated as soon as they are finalized.
- We are maintaining our contract with F&M to hold commencement on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 in hopes of having an in-person celebration. As a back-up, we are planning for a virtual experience and must begin preparing for that now due to deadlines with the vendor. If we are required to move forward with just the virtual experience, that is not all we will do for our students. If permitted, we would look to do something else in the summer, but nothing has officially been planned yet. We must make a decision about an in-person graduation celebration at F&M no later than Friday, May 15.
We understand that a disruption to our students’ educational and extracurricular experiences, as well as these end-of-school milestones, is frustrating. We remain committed to finding ways to celebrate the Class of 2020. They have earned it!
