Pennsylvania State Senator Scott Martin, who represents Lancaster County and chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, used his social media platform to criticize Governor Josh Shapiro’s budget decisions and highlight recent legislative activities.
On February 12, 2026, Martin posted about Governor Shapiro’s actions regarding education funding. He stated, “In 2022, Candidate Shapiro said he’d fight for Lifeline Scholarships to support kids in failing schools. When that plan reached his desk in 2023, he vetoed it. Gov. Shapiro had FOUR chances to fund these scholarships in his budget, and he failed to deliver every time.”
Later the same day, Martin addressed concerns over proposed state spending: “ICYMI: Senate and House Republicans are raising the alarm about the $2.7 BILLION in new spending proposed by Governor Shapiro. His budget would lead to bond downgrades, total elimination of our emergency reserves, and massive tax hikes on Pennsylvania families next year.”
On February 13, 2026, Martin shared a personal note from his work at the Capitol: “It was an honor to deliver the opening prayer before Senate session last week.”
Martin has played a prominent role in Pennsylvania state government as a senator representing Lancaster County and has served multiple terms in this position. According to his official website, he leads initiatives focused on public safety, clean water efforts, and veteran assistance programs. In addition to chairing the Senate Appropriations Committee, Martin has previously led both the Senate Education and Local Government Committees and contributed to legislation protecting children and victims of domestic violence.
Shapiro’s administration has faced criticism from Republican legislators over its approach to education funding and proposed increases in state spending. The Lifeline Scholarship program referenced by Martin was designed as an initiative aimed at providing financial assistance for students attending underperforming schools but did not receive gubernatorial approval when presented.
