Senator Scott Martin has been re-elected by his peers to continue his role as Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee for the upcoming 2025-26 legislative session. The committee is responsible for evaluating the fiscal impact of legislation and plays a key role in shaping the state budget. During the previous session, it reviewed over 320 bills.
Martin was recently re-elected for a third term representing Lancaster and Berks counties in the Pennsylvania Senate. He initially assumed the position of Chair in November 2022. In his first two years, he led efforts to reduce proposed spending increases and collaborated with Senate Republican leaders to pass budgets aimed at reducing taxes, strengthening the state’s Rainy Day Fund, and investing in growth policies.
These budgets have kept spending increases below limits set by the Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights, leading to credit rating upgrades and financial outlook improvements for Pennsylvania. This has saved taxpayers more than $100 million in long-term interest costs.
“I am grateful for the trust my colleagues have placed in me to give taxpayers a stronger voice in Harrisburg,” Martin stated. “We have accomplished a great deal on behalf of Pennsylvanians over the past two years, but we still have work to do to make our state budget sustainable and structurally balanced in the future. I look forward to working with all my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to advance pro-growth policies that put working families first.”
