Senators Scott Martin and Joe Picozzi have put forward a resolution to honor the bravery and dedication of Pennsylvania’s law enforcement officers. The resolution, known as Senate Resolution 97, aims to designate May 11-17 as “National Police Week” and May 5 as “Police Officers’ Memorial Day” within the state.
The resolution was presented by Senator Martin at the Fraternal Order of Police Pennsylvania State Lodge’s Police Memorial Ceremony held at the Pennsylvania Capitol Building. During the ceremony, Martin expressed gratitude towards law enforcement officers, stating, “We owe a special debt of gratitude to all the courageous men and women who serve and protect our communities in law enforcement.”
This year’s memorial ceremony paid tribute to Philadelphia Police Officer Jaime Roman, who lost his life in the line of duty on September 10, 2024. Senator Picozzi emphasized the courage required to serve as a police officer: “This week calls us to reflect on the courage it takes to wear the badge and the sacrifice that comes with it.”
The initiative seeks to recognize both active officers and those who have made significant sacrifices in their roles.
