Senators Wayne Langerholc, Jr., Cris Dush, and Scott Martin are acknowledging the efforts of Penn State students involved in the annual THON fundraiser. This event supports families affected by pediatric cancer through the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital. THON is recognized as the largest student-run philanthropy effort globally, having raised $236 million since its inception in 1973.
The fundraising activities culminate in a 46-hour dance marathon scheduled for February 21-23 at the Bryce Jordan Center. The event will be streamed live online. In 2024 alone, THON raised nearly $17 million.
The Senators have introduced a resolution to designate February 17-23 as “THON Week” in Pennsylvania, honoring the contributions of approximately 16,500 Penn State student volunteers who dedicate over five million hours to this cause.
“Penn State THON exemplifies the dedication of students, alumni, and supporters united in the fight against pediatric cancer,” said Langerholc. “Their tireless efforts provide hope, support, and financial relief to families in need, and I’m honored to recognize their commitment through this resolution.”
Cris Dush added his personal perspective: “Personally speaking, I consider THON to be an excellent example of practicing God’s second Commandment: to LOVE our neighbors as ourselves. It is an absolute blessing to see thousands of Penn State students, along with their organizational teammates, becoming actively involved in providing critical financial and emotional support to young children and their families who have been tragically impacted by cancer.”
Scott Martin expressed his pride: “I am extremely proud and grateful for all the young people supporting THON throughout the year and making a real difference in the lives of families affected by childhood cancer. The love, encouragement and resources they provide are essential to families at their most vulnerable time.”
