HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward, Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman, and Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Scott Martin have expressed strong criticism of the Biden Administration’s new power plant emission rules.
Ward highlighted concerns about the impact of the new rules on electricity consumers and grid reliability, stating, “It is deeply short-sighted that the Biden Administration is pushing yet another disastrous policy that will hurt electricity consumers and make our grid less reliable.” She also emphasized the potential consequences, citing warnings from PJM about possible future rolling blackouts due to energy production challenges.
Pittman raised the issue of job losses in the energy industry, noting that the new emissions rules could cost Pennsylvania thousands of jobs. He remarked, “The new emissions rules will cost Pennsylvania thousands of family-sustaining jobs in the energy industry at a time when we are working as hard as we can to fight back against the state’s economic and demographic decline.”
Martin echoed the concerns of his colleagues and called for action to reverse the decision, stating, “We join many of our colleagues in encouraging Pennsylvania’s federal lawmakers and Governor Shapiro to do everything in their power to reverse this decision and prevent our grid from being crippled by the Biden Administration’s poor decision-making.”
The Pennsylvania Senate leaders urged federal lawmakers and the state governor to take steps to prevent the negative impacts of the new emission rules on energy consumers, job opportunities, and grid reliability.
