Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity and Senator Scott Martin announced the return of nearly $27,000 in unclaimed property to residents of Lancaster County. This initiative followed Sen. Martin’s annual Senior Expo.
Garrity expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating, “Getting this money back where it belongs is fantastic news for the Pennsylvanians who call Lancaster County home. It was great to work with Sen. Martin and his staff.” She emphasized that while the Treasury safeguards these funds, they ultimately belong to Pennsylvanians.
Senator Martin acknowledged the collaboration with Treasurer Garrity’s team during the event. He said, “I appreciate Treasurer Garrity’s team for coming to my Senior Expo and sharing their expertise with Lancaster County residents.”
The outreach at the expo resulted in $26,905.55 being identified for nine individuals as rightful owners of unclaimed property. Such property can include dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, or forgotten safe deposit boxes. According to state law, businesses must report such property after three years of dormancy.
The Pennsylvania Treasury is currently working on returning over $4.5 billion in unclaimed property statewide, including more than $68 million owed to Lancaster County residents.
