On April 18, 2024, Pennsylvania House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler expressed his appreciation for the $1.846 million in Broadband Infrastructure Project grant funding allocated to Southern Lancaster County.

Cutler emphasized the critical need for enhanced broadband deployment in the region, stating, “Southern Lancaster County is in desperate need of additional broadband deployment. Not having access to the same high-speed internet found in most areas across Pennsylvania holds our students, employers and municipalities back in an age that is almost entirely dependent on the internet.”

He further highlighted the significance of the funding, noting, “This funding will help fund additional broadband deployment throughout Southern Lancaster County and get more areas connected to high-speed internet access as quickly as possible.”

The $1.846 million grant is part of a larger effort to support total broadband infrastructure deployment funding of $2,797,607 in Southern Lancaster County, when considering recipient match funding.

The grants approved by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority, totaling $204.1 million for 53 projects, aim to address the lack of reliable access to 25/3 Mbps service in underserved areas. The funding awarded to Frontier Communications for ongoing broadband deployment in Southern Lancaster County is a crucial step towards bridging the digital divide in the region.

The Broadband Infrastructure Program, funded under The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, focuses on extending existing last-mile cable modem and fiber broadband networks, as well as implementing large-scale regional projects to serve residents in underserved areas.
