Pennsylvania House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler has expressed concern over the expansion of county investigations into potential voter registration fraud and reports of possible voter disenfranchisement. Cutler emphasized the seriousness of these issues as a significant election approaches.
Cutler remarked, “The expansion of county investigations into potential voter registration fraud and reports of potential voter disenfranchisement is of grave concern as a consequential election is already underway.”
He highlighted the updates made to Pennsylvania’s election laws in 2019, which aimed to enhance safeguards against election-related fraud and increase the integrity of elections. However, he believes that more measures are necessary.
Cutler referenced the Pennsylvania Voting Rights Protection Act, led by House Republicans after the 2020 election. The act sought to build on the 2019 safeguards by ensuring it was easy to vote but hard to cheat in Pennsylvania elections through enhanced voter identification and post-election audits. Despite its bipartisan passage in the General Assembly, Governor Tom Wolf vetoed both the legislation and audit-related funding.
“As we are now a week from Election Day, these ongoing issues make it clearer than ever that the most universal answer to many of today’s election integrity questions is requiring voters to show identification at each and every election,” Cutler stated.
